Ringling’s Kanyon McGahey – FFA Spotlight – presented By farm Credit of Western Oklahoma

A four-year football player at Ringling High School, Kanyon McGahey is also a member of the FFA chapter at his school. Being part of the football team is something McGahey loves about being a student-athlete. His teammates are more like brothers.

“The thing I love most about my teammates is the brother bond we all have, and I think it’s key to being a good team,” said McGahey.

This season McGahey said the team is taking it one game at a time under head coach Phillip Koons after a 10-1 season and a trip to the semifinals last year. McGahey is a two-way starter for Ringling playing wide receiver and defensive back.

Off the gridiron, McGahey spends a lot of his time raising his animals and preparing them for show.

“I am involved in showing,” said McGahey. “I show pigs and I’ve been in FFA for over five years.”

Also the FFA chapter President at Ringling High School, McGahey said there are many things to like about being in FFA, but for him it’s about learning new things and meeting new people.

“The thing I most like about FFA is the lessons you learn and how it makes you responsible and the friends you make,” said McGahey.

After he graduates, McGahey said he would enjoy studying Agribusiness in college. When he is away from the football field and his animals, McGahey said he enjoys family, friends and the opportunity to hunt and fish. The senior offers up some advice for anyone looking to join the FFA.

“My advice for underclassman is do it you meet new people and you learn many life lessons that help you down the road.”
