Elk City’s Campbell Jacobsma – FFA Spotlight – Presented By Farm Credit of Western Oklahoma

Campbell Jacobsma is a junior at Elk City High School and a member of the varsity cheer squad. Being a member of the cheer team has taught her a lot about hard work and being a good teammate.

“I love the bonds that come with it, we may not always get along but getting to work together and getting to cheer at games is always worth it,” she said. “I love how if someone is struggling most everyone will stop and help. We always push each other to do our best.”

Another activity that Jacobsma has learned from is being involved in the Elk City FFA chapter.

“I first got involved in FFA my freshman year,” said Jacobsma. “My Ag teacher Mr. Dillinger got me involved, there was a class I went to one night and he helped me out from there. I’ve always been super interested in showing pigs after my big brother Sage did it a few years.”

Finding enjoyment in FFA was easy for Jacobsma.

“The reason I enjoy FFA so much is that there’s something for everyone. I have not met one person who hasn’t found something they like in FFA. FFA also helps with leadership and other skills,” Jacobsma said. “I do creed contests, horticulture, and I am starting to show animals. I am starting to show a pig this year as well.”

Aside from cheer and FFA, the junior also spends time in the band and is a member of the drumline. She said the advice she would give to a potential FFA member centers around everything the FFA has to offer a student.

“The advice I would give is it is not just animals and shows there’s so many options if you aren’t into just showing, there is something for everyone. There is Horticulture, Wildlife Science and Management, Ag Power and Tech and do many more options. It helps so much with social and leadership skills,” said Jacobsma.

Jacobsma said her father has always pushed her to work hard for everything she wants, and that advice is paying off.
