Empire’s Mcray Weber – Athlete Spotlight – Presented By Delaine Parker Shelter Insurance Agent

Mcray Weber of Empire High School started playing football in elementary school like many of his peers. Now a varsity football player, Weber said being part of a team with so many people who come to practice and work hard to help achieve their collective goals.

“I have been playing organized football at empire since the fourth grade, so I’ve been playing for about eight years,” Weber said “What I love most about my team and teammates is their work ethic. Day in and day out we come into practice knowing that it could be our last so we go as hard as we can.”

Weber is the type of player the coaching staff can use in multiple roles on the team. His versatility and his teammates desire to win has resulted in a great start to the season.

“I actually stayed as the X-receiver this season although if coach makes the call I will go to quarterback at any time,” said Weber.

This season expectations are high with the number of returning players who also bring a lot of experience to the field. Weber said they thrive in the pressure, and they are looking forward to whatever challenges are ahead.

“My expectations for this year is a district championship and then make a deep run in the playoffs,” said Weber.

Weber also plays for the varsity basketball team in the winter.

“Besides football, I play basketball and have been playing that since the fourth grade,” said Weber.

The future graduate said he is looking forward to attending the University of Oklahoma. In his free time, Weber said he enjoys going to church and helping his youth pastor with anything he needs help with.
Through October, Weber and the Bulldogs will face Snyder and Waurika on the road with a home game against Central High to close out the month.
