Dickson’s Riley Mays – FFA Spotlight – Presented by Oklahoma AgCredit

Dickson High School sophomore Riley Mays is a member of the varsity softball team and a member of the FFA chapter at school. For the last several years Mays has been in either the 4-H Club or FFA and she has enjoyed every minute of it.

“I have been involved in 4-H and FFA for seven years,” said Mays. “It was my mom and my brothers who encouraged me to join.”

One thing Mays said she has really loved about being in FFA is learning as much as she can about her animals and how to show them.

“Learning and showing animals is one thing that I love doing,” said Mays. “I also love meeting new people.”

For her sophomore year, Mays is planning on showing cattle after having shown other animals in the past.

“I have shown goats, sheep, pigs and cattle,” said Mays. “In the past year, I have reduced that to cattle only.”

Away from showing her livestock, Mays said she is also focused on playing softball and keeping her grades up. The pitcher/utility player is excited to be starting another season of fastpitch softball with her teammates. Mays said her mother has always been in inspiration and influence in her life.

“My mom has always been by my side and encourages me to keep going. She has always been the person I want to become. She never lets me get down on myself and always makes me laugh,” said Mays.

Mays said the FFA has taught her more than just lessons about animals and agriculture. She said anyone thinking they may want to join their local FFA chapter should expect some exciting things heading their way.

“Joining FFA has given me a chance to meet new people, increased my leadership skills and provides tremendous responsibilities that will help in the future,” said Mays.
