Lawton has won nine straight against its Lawton Public School rivals MacArthur and Eisenhower, the longest such combined streak in school history. 

The Wolverines failed to win a playoff game for the third consecutive season. That’s the longest streak since a four-year dry spell from 2001 to 2005. 

Wide receiver Devin Simpson caught 4 passes for 147 yards and all three touchdowns for Lawton in a 20-18 loss to Deer Creek. Simpson also completed a pass for 31 yards 

OFFENSE

The Wolverines are coming off of a rough season a year ago, one that saw them end the season with three consecutive losses. But head coach Ryan Breeze, who is entering his fifteenth season at the helm, says that his team has the potential to see some postseason action. “We have lots of athleticism return,” he said. “And if some big frames come around upfront, the Wolverines could be ready for another playoff run.” Running back and wide receiver combo, Devin Simpson (5-8, 160, Sr.) is back and is a dynamic player when he has the ball in his hands. Last season, he averaged almost twenty yards every time he touched the ball. Devarius Hardy (6-2, 183, Jr.) will see more time at quarterback this season with Donavan Dorsey graduating. The Wolverines are bringing back a few other weapons that should play big roles this season. Alber Baker (6-0, 190, Sr.) will be at running back, while Kobe Nichols (5-11, 154, Sr.) is going to be playing at wide receiver. Tyron Amacker (6-0, 161, Jr.) will play wherever needed and is expected to have a strong season.

DEFENSE

Amacker played a big role on the Wolverines defense last season, tallying thirty-three tackles, two sacks, and one interception. But Breeze says that he expects Amacker to see more action on the offensive side of the ball. Albert Baker (6-0, 191, Sr.) returns to the defensive line as a defensive end. The defensive line as a whole will be young, but if they can lock things down, it will allow an experienced secondary to fly to the football. Cornerback Kobe Nichols (5-10, 154, Sr.) has put in a lot of work during the offseason and has gotten stronger and faster. He is joined in the secondary by safety Blake Eastwood (5-10, 170, Sr.). According to the head coach, Eastwood has worked hard and has the opportunity to play at the next level. “Blake has willed himself into a college-level football player,” Breeze said. “He does everything right both in the weight room and in the classroom and has made himself into a defensive standout.”
