Elk City’s Rylee Wyatt – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Paul Jones Drug

By Derrick Smith

There are many successful people in our world today. While all of them put in the time and work to get there, they will all tell you that they did not get there alone. The same is true for Rylee Wyatt, who says that she has had different people help her become the athlete and person she is today.

“My dad has always been a big influence on my life,” she said. “He has always pushed me to do my best and encouraged me through everything. He is my biggest supporter. Also, I have had many great teachers at Elk City through the years. They’ve all left a huge impact on my life, but the one that sticks out most in my mind is Mrs. Manning. She’s taught me not only academics, but more importantly, she has taught me valuable life lessons that have stuck with me throughout my years.”

Wyatt is a junior at Elk City High School, where she is a multi-sport athlete. She plays fast pitch softball, basketball, and golf. Softball has been a part of her life since she was three years old. She switches between middle infielder, shortstop, and second base.

Becoming the athlete that she is today has taken a lot but Rylee says that the work is paying off.

“It has taken a lot of hard work,” she said. “There have been countless hours of practice. But I have gained a lot of experience which has been crucial.”

This season will be a big one for Rylee as she is returning from hip labrum surgery. She is ready to get back out on the field with her teammates and have a great season.

Outside of athletics, Wyatt is also involved in multiple clubs around campus. She is a part of the student council, Key Club, National Honor Society, National Society of High School Scholars, Native American Education Committee, and the Spanish Club.
