Elk City’s Mason Price – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Paul Jones Drug

By Derrick Smith

Success is something that everyone wants to achieve, no matter what path of life they choose. Whether it is in business, athletics, family, or something else, our views of success can also differ. For Mason Price, becoming a better athlete has cost a lot, but he says it is all worth it.

“It’s taken a lot of early mornings,” he said. “There has also been some blood, sweat, and tears to get to where our team is today. We’ve come a long way from being that 0-10 team.”

Price is a senior at Elk City High School, where he plays free safety and wide receiver on the Elks football team. Football has been a part of Mason’s life for as long as he can remember and he still loves the game to this day.

Mason has had a lot of people who have impacted his life throughout his career, but he says that there is one person who had the biggest influence.

“My biggest role model would have to be my uncle Tanner Williams,” he said. “He played football at Elk City when he was in high school. He has coached me since I was in the third grade. He has always been there for me throughout my football career.”

There have been some really memorable moments throughout his football career, but for Price, choosing his favorite moment is simple.

“It would definitely have to be ending the twenty-two game losing streak,” he said. “I will never forget that moment. I was a starter on varsity as a freshman, so I endured a lot of those losses. The win against Southeast was a feeling I will never forget. We actually won two more games that season.”

As a student at Elk City, Mason has been taught by many teachers. He says that they have all helped shape him into the person he is but that there is one that stands out as his favorite.

“Rick Dillinger would have to be my favorite teacher,” he stated. “He is our Ag instructor and is consistently teaching us life lessons that will make us successful in our future.”

Outside of athletics, Price is also involved in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and the Future Farmers of America.
