Weatherford’s Chloe Cummins – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Eagle Realty

When it comes to actual golf game experience, Weatherford High School junior Chloe Cummins is relatively new to the game. But she said she’s been around the game for a long time.

“I didn’t start playing golf until my freshman year,” Cummins said. “I always grew up going to the golf course and attending golf tournaments because of my older brother, Quade. My freshman year was when golf was offered as a school sport, so I decided to try it because I had grown up around the game, and wanted to see how I could do. My grandpa, L.B., took me out and taught me everything I know. He is my biggest fan and attends every tournament I have played in. Golf is a lot different than basketball from the competition aspect. It shows exactly how much talent you have without others helping. Golf has definitely boosted my confidence, just seeing what I’m capable of.”

Even though she’s only been playing competitively for a few years, Cummins said she has already developed some deep superstitions which are prevalent in the game.

“I’m very superstitious when it comes to golf,” she said. “I always wear the same thing for tournaments and I have a special type of ball I play with. Before I tee off I typically don’t like hitting a lot of range balls, and I have a set routine I go through on each tee box. I don’t particularly like taking a lot of practice swings. Coach Mickley has encouraged me to take some, but it’s what works for my game, so I don’t change.”

Cummins said her summer break plans are going to consist of bettering herself in golf and basketball, while enjoying her last summer with friends and family before she graduates.

In her free time, she said she enjoys spending time with her friends and family and hitting range balls at the course at night.
