Caden Powell is one of the most talented juniors in the State of Oklahoma. The 6-foot-3, 200-pounder from Clinton High School competes on the Red Tornadoes football, basketball, and baseball teams.
Powell plays on both sides of the ball on the football field at the quarterback and linebacker positions. This season, Powell threw for nearly 800 yards and eight touchdowns while rushing for nearly 300 yards and four scores on the ground. He also caught three passes for 57 yards and scored an additional two touchdowns. Defensively, Powell recorded 117 tackles, nine tackles for loss, three sacks, and four forced fumbles. Powell led the Red Tornadoes to an 8-4 record and the school’s first state title appearance in eight years.
Powell started the past two seasons at the forward position for the basketball squad, where he’s averaged a double-double both years. This season, Powell averaged 16.5 points, 11 rebounds, 2.7 assists, and 1.6 steals per game.
Powell’s favorite sport comes in the springtime, where he’s a superstar shortstop for the Clinton baseball team. He’s started at shortstop and batted three-hole since his freshman season and has taken on a bigger role this year, helping out on the mound as well. Powell’s thrown 30 innings this season and recorded 50 strikeouts in the process. This season, Powell is leading the team in batting average (.457), on-base percentage (.559), hits (37), RBIs (41), doubles (8), triples (7), and home runs (8). Going into his freshman year, Powell verbally committed to play baseball at the University of Oklahoma before recording a single at-bat for the Clinton baseball team.
Powell credits his dad, Jeff, for his success in baseball.
“He’s been really hard on me since I was a little kid,” Powell said. “And without him, I have no doubt that I wouldn’t be the athlete that I am today.”
Powell umpires and helps take care of the local little league fields in Clinton, something he’s done since his freshman year. Powell also enjoys cutting hair, doing so for his friends the past three years inside his garage setup.
