Anadarko’s JoyAnna Davis – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Bank of Commerce

JoyAnna Davis is an 18 year old senior cross country and track star for the Anadarko High School Warriors, and she said she fell in love with running in the seventh grade.

“I love to do both these sports because it helps with my mindset,” Davis said. “It helps me become a better leader for my team. My season was going well this year until we went to Lindsey. I was running a rely and strained my hamstring. After two weeks I was up and running again, but I sprained it again at regionals.

“My mindset before each run is to just focus on my breathing and get faster every time,” Davis continued. “Before my races I always stretch with my team and do a warm up lap. I like to do those things because it keeps my nerves down.”

Davis said she is feeling better now, but is more concerned with the importance of being a role model to her teammates than how her final season has played out.

“I love being a leader to my team,” she said. “I plan team bonding events like movie nights or just running around town to help us grow together as a team.”

With summer around the corner, Davis said she plans to work and save money for college, and also plans to go to Idaho to visit family.

“I plan to attend Cameron University in Lawton in the fall,” she said. “I also want to help my sister take care of her child that is due in August. After my freshman year, I plan to transfer to Langston University to finish off my degrees in physical therapy and business management.”

In her free time, Davis said she enjoys working or spending time with her family and friends. She also said she’d like to give a shoutout to her coaches for pushing her and toughening up her mentality.
