Sayre’s Noel Fernandez – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Robert Stephens Edward Jones

There are people in each of our lives that have played a role in us becoming the person we are. While each person’s influence can vary in size, their impact can last a lifetime.

Noel Fernandez has someone in his life that has had a big influence on him, both as an athlete and as a person.

“My dad is my biggest role model,” Noel said. “He has taught me a lot about football and also lessons that have helped me in life and will be helpful to me in the future.”

A junior at Sayre High School, Fernandez is a three-sport athlete for the Eagles. He plays wide receiver and outside linebacker on the football team. He is also a member of the school’s basketball and track teams.

Along with the influence of his dad, Noel has had to put in his own work in order to get to where he is today.

“It has taken a lot of practice to help me grow into the athlete I am now,” he said. “Over time, I have seen myself become a better athlete and on the road to success.”

Throughout his career, Noel has had some memorable moments, but he recalls one play that stands out as his favorite.

“We were playing the Merritt Oilers during football season,” he said. “It was our homecoming game, so it was an important game to us. I was able to help my team win the game on the last play. It was a great feeling to be a part of a big win.”

Some of the best advice that Noel has received came from Mr. Merrick, who is Fernandez’s favorite teacher.

“He taught me to stop stressing about things,” he said. “I just have to get over it and move on and not hang on to the things that do not really matter.”

When he is not playing sports, Noel likes to play video games and watch sports.

“DK Metcalf is probably my favorite player to watch,” he stated. “He is a really good receiver and a fun player to watch.”
