Lawton’s Devin Simpson – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Bank of Commerce

Devin Simpson is a tri-sport athlete for the Lawton High School Wolverines, and he said he can mark a specific time in his life when he fell in love with each sport he plays.

“It started off in elementary school. I went to Pat Henry Elementary and I was in first grade and I begged my dad to let me play football, but I was small,” he said. “I hit a dude and made him flip and got up and just heard everyone yelling and that’s when I knew I loved football.

“Back then the schools would have a little Hershey track meet and the school would pick someone that they thought would compete,” he continued. “They chose me and I was one of those kids that could run for days and not be tired. My very first race I ran the 100 meter dash and I was winning. I’m passing the crowd and I heard my momma yelling ‘Go Devin go Devin,’ and I looked and just smiled and finished the race knowing my mom was very proud of me.”

In the midst of a successful track season this year, Simpson said he is still planning for next year in order to continue his success.

“My goal for my senior year is to have my whole team on the same page,” he said. “I want to lead my team into some big games and come out on top. My grades also have to be on point if I want to go somewhere after high school. I want to go to college and receive a scholarship so I can live my dream and keep playing football.”

In his free time, Simpson said he likes to do home workouts, or go outside and shoot hoops or play with his dog. He said this summer he plans to work on his game nonstop and get bigger and better each day.
