Duke’s Gage Milner – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Stockmans Bank

Athletes want to be the best that they can be at the sports they choose to play. And that requires a lot, according to Gage Milner.

“It has taken a lot of hard work for me to get to where I am today,” Gage said. “You also have to be dedicated. Because if you are not willing to sacrifice and dedicate yourself to getting better, you won’t.”

Gage is a senior at Duke High School, where he is a two-sport athlete. He switches between shortstop, first base, pitcher, and outfield on the baseball team – a sport that has been a part of his life for as long as he can remember. He is also a member of the Tigers’ basketball team.

Along with being a dedicated athlete, Milner says that he would not be the person he is today without the influence of someone very important to him.

“My papa is the biggest role model in my life,” he said. “He taught me how to have a positive outlook on life, no matter what is happening. That is something that I will carry with me for the rest of my life. Someone else that has had a positive impact on my life is Mrs. Birdwell, who is a teacher at Duke. She has taught me how to be a hard worker and many other life lessons.”

Throughout his career, Milner has had moments that he will remember for a long time, but he says that one in particular stands out as his favorite.

“The highlight moment of my career would have to be winning the 2020 basketball state championship,” he stated. “We beat Leedey in the championship game. It was a great feeling to bring the championship to Duke and it was a great team victory.”

Along with athletics, Gage is also a member of Future Farmers of America and student council.
