Cache’s Damien Williams – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Arvest Bank

Cache junior Damien Williams is a cross-country and track phenom for the Bulldogs, and he said he first got into track by trying to boost his skills for other sports.

“Originally I wanted to be a phenomenal player in soccer, and do big things with that,” Williams said. “We used to do about a half mile or a mile before every practice, and I would always want to be the first one done. So in middle school I decided to do cross country and track.”

Williams admits he wasn’t stellar at first, but grew to love the conditioning track provided him.

“I wasn’t the best or greatest at it, considering I had never ran before,” he said. “That eventually led to me not doing track my freshman year, and that was the biggest mistake of my life. I realized running was the sport I loved the most. The reason why I love it so much is because of how much hard work it takes, and you have to run every single day to get better.”

In his off time, Williams said he likes to spend time with his family, his girlfriend and his friends. He said he’s having fun this track season, but is also focused on getting better for next year.

“I want to go for state titles,” he said. “I look to have the best personal records in my high school career. I plan to work on those by having high mileage and hard workouts, and by training in the summer to have a great cross country season.”

After high school, Williams said he plans to go to college and get a degree in computer science, with a focus on programming. He said he is currently undecided on what college he wants to attend.
